I used dressmaker's tracing paper to put on the pattern, and I embroidered with 1 strand of silk floss

...to computer screens everythwere--pics of my husband in his new 1560s italian outfit--doublet and paned trunk hose and bonnet.
Based on the outfit of the Medici (sorry, can't remember his first name at the moment) who died in 1562 (at the age of 15, so I had to enlarge the pattern) from the patterns in Janet Arnold's _Patterns of Fashion_
doublet is pewter silk (which i found for only $5/yd, woohoo!), lined with copper colored silk, trunk hose and canions mint green silk, panes are velveteen (remind me to not work with velveteen, or anything else that sheds, ever again)
i used silk floss for the buttonholes, buttons are covered with the same pewter silk--i used one of those handy buttonmaking things you can get anywhere
feathers are from Hobby Lobby
the bonnet pattern i found somehwere online.
shoes are Chinese shoes--the kind with fabric soles, not the red rubber

well, there are plenty of podcasts for language learners, for when they've finished or are waiting for CDs to check out,
I like Picnik, except now, you have to pay for the cool stuff (it was free when we had our lessons on photo stuff) I've already spent 30'-hour helping a 15 yr edit photos with Picnik to put on her myspace

maybe i'll think of something else later

we use overdrive at our house all the time. My 11 year old has 3 or 4 titles checked out right now and has 2 on hold. I also burned some CDs of Italian language learning and sent to my studenta di Italiano.

i looked at a couple of the directories. I found one for my daughter to use to help her in her Italian studies. Someday I will listen to the whole episode "fiasco" on thisamericanlife.org. I';ve listened to the first 10 mintutes a couple of times--still hilarious.

actually I did post a comment on someone's blog - she had a pic, looked like from the 60s of a bunch of women looking up at something, and I asked what they were looking at. This was a while back though, and i haven't gone back to see if she answered my question.

I actually already had a facebook account - I got so I can keep an eye on my daughter who's at college now. A few years ago she had a xanga account, but that went out of vogue, then she had a myspace, now facebook is the site of choice for college peeps apparently, myspace is still what everybody (read middle school and high schoolers) uses at the library.

so I'm reading this library 2.0 stuff:
1. "allows anyone using Open WorldCat to contribute and share tables of contents, notes and reviews"(Nilges)---so does this mean I can make nasty remarks about the idiots at LC who don't catalogue things very well? sorry, the only example I can come up with right now is that Walt Disney princess storybook thing that came in as a 398.. Now, it didn't have a CIP, so maybe I could blame Brodart for cataloguing it that way, but I checked OCLC and it was catalogued there as 398. (!) Thankfully Bill accepted my request for catalogue change, and Disney is out of folklore and back to fiction where it belongs.

2. as far as all this web stuff and taking it to the people (at home, school, work), yeah, yeah, but people still come in and *I* am still expected to know what every book is about, what reading level it is, etc. I think that people will still rather wander around and look at the books to pick one out, than surf book reviews. (maybe this only applies to kids, I don't know, I don't do reader's advisory with grown ups if I can help it)

"People will collect librarians rather than books—the ability not just to organise, but also to annotate and compare books and other information sources, from a variety of useful perspectives" (Schultz) mmmm, maybe avid readers like ones who already use Novelist, but those 6th grader non-reading boys looking for a 375 historical fiction set during WW2....

I am not pleased with Library Thing. It says "click here to add author" (or whatever) but when you click, there's nothing to tell you how to add an author.

1. OJ (Simpson) is a waste of oxygen.

2. Donovan whatever his name is should just stop whining. His team is 0-2. That's what the issue is. (this is football, nevermind if you don't watch the sports news)

3. ok, people - here's what you should do when you see a red light: take your foot off the accelerator. If you do that, then you could either coast for a while, or apply the brake lightly for a while, but either way you won't wear your brakes out by slamming on them when you get all the way up to the light. So, to the (bleep)s who get p***ed when I slow down when approaching a red (hello! it's RED) light, I say, "go back to Driver's Ed."
